From rock balancing to blasting down a rock face...
I enjoy, teach and guide a wide variety of activities such as mountain biking, surfing, surf kayaking, hiking, backpacking, snow shoeing, slacklining, rock balancing, skiing and more.
The different activities require varying skill and fitness levels. I typically cater to those that are fit, outdoorsy and not an expert in the area or discipline - and have a great attitude with a love of the outdoors. With the exception of mountain biking, I typically would not lead an "advanced" adventure. I am not an expert or professional in any of the sports I do. I am better than most, but not close to the pro level in any of the sports I do and love.
I have a passion for the outdoors and the sports I do. That passion has driven me to become reasonably good at those sports, stay in good shape, and have the willingness and ability to show and lead others in those sports. I know great places to take kids, and open their eyes to a new sense of adventure, or an experienced mountain biker looking for epic local trails, or even a hike on the beach, stopping at a tide pool to practice the art of rock balancing.
Rock Balancing
Rock balancing is an art of patients and a bit of meditation. It is fun, and kids love it, as well as being relaxing and artful for adults.
Surfing
I teach beginners to surf at a very easy break. Most people are able to stand up and ride waves their first day. Good balance and a good attitude really help!
Backpacking
Backpacking in the local mountains or Sierras is amazing. I know a few very easy, incredible destinations that even the beginning backpacker can enjoy. Some of these are hard to get permits for, so lead time is really needed.
Mountain Biking
This video is of a very technical, very difficult ride. I am happy to lead low intermediate rides to advanced. I know of a number of epic trails for all audiences. Don't let the video deter you, it is just a great example of the epic, technical trails in our OC backyard. I love to lead the mellower stuff too, and give you tips on how to better your skills.
Snowshoeing
As you might imagine, snowshoeing is not a big sport in southern California. But the San Jacento wilderness above Palm Springs is an amazing place to enjoy a different world, just a 15 minute areal tram ride away. Obviously the opportunities to get great snowshoe conditions are limited, so trips are normally planned with very short notice.
Surf Kayaking
Have you ever wanted to ride the waves? Sitting in a kayak riding down a wave is an amazing experience. I teach surf kayaking at a very mellow break and provide an open-top kayak, than any beginner can handle. It is really a blast and much easier than surfing.
Hiking
We have some amazing local hikes here in Orange County. Most people don't put the remote down long enough to find them. I know of perfect spots to take the kids on a two mile easy adventure or a 10+ mile adult local exploration.
Slacklining
Slacklining is an up and coming sport. For kids, it is just fun and challenging. They spend hours trying to master it. For adults, it takes a bit more tenacity and is a great means to build your core strength, and most importantly great mind control. Many "slackers" call slacklining a "walking meditation". If you do yoga or meditation, it is a great crossover sport.
